Bulletin | Mailisoft scientists convene the Fourth International Workshop on Meshless Methods

2018-08-06

On the morning of August 3, the fourth International Workshop on Meshless Methods (IWMM2018) was grandly opened at Changsha University of Science & Technology international academic exchange center. The workshop was hosted by Changsha University of Science & Technology and organized by the school of Transportation Engineering. The meeting was jointly convened by Mailisoft scientist Dr. Yang Jianjun and professor P.H. Wen, who co-chaired the meeting.

The International Workshop on Meshless Methods (IWMM) was organized by well-known domestic computational mechanics experts and international computational mechanics scientists in 2015, and has held previous workshops in several well-known universities in China. The aim of the workshop is to establish a special academic exchange platform for international counterpart of meshless methods research, to promote the close cooperation between domestic researchers and internationally renowned scientists, and promote the continuous progress of the emerging research field of meshless methods.

The seminar was supported by nearly 40 universities and scientific research institutions worldwide, with a total of 48 scholars and nearly 20 graduate students attending the conference. Among them, 25 overseas scholars from the United States, the United Kingdom, Poland, Portugal, Japan, Slovenia, Taiwan region of China and Hong Kong of China attended the conference. Professor G.R. Liu from the University of Cincinnati, professor J.T. Chen from the National Taiwan Ocean University, and professor Y. Wang from the University of Washington were invited to make special thematic presentations. The conference set up five thematic agendas, and were chaired by professor C.S. Chen from the university of southern Mississippi, professor Anita Uscilowska from Poznan University of Technology, Poland, professor Carlos Alves from the University of Lisbon, Portugal, professor Wataru Fujisaki from the Kyushu University, and professor Benny Y.C. Hon from the City University of Hong Kong. This workshop mainly aimed at the research progress and application of meshless methods, and the research trend of MFS.

The meeting was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Through the organization of this session, it will help to further strengthen the exchange and cooperation between Mailisoft and international computational mechanics scientists, and promote the further improvement of Mailisoft products. The meeting was also highly praised by the participants. Professor C.S. Chen, a tenured professor of the University of Southern Mississippi, editor-in-chief of Computers, Materials, and Continua, and deputy editor of Engineering Analysis with Boundary Elements, commented to the members of the plenary session: "In the seminars around the world that I have experienced, this conference is indeed one of the best. Congratulations on the success of the conference! Excellent organization, smooth operation, wonderful report, and friendly meeting atmosphere are all far beyond expectations! Conference organizers should be proud of their results."
